Happy Halloween everyone!!!

October 30th, 2008

Today has been down right crazy! I mean I have been on a roller coaster ride of a day. It all started with some news posted on a website and it took until about 2-ish for me to get the facts straight. Which is all I can say at the moment, believe me I wish I could divulge all, but I can't.

I have a few pics to post today, a couple you have already seen. They are of Peanut in his Halloween costumes of 07 & 08. I am entering him into a contest hosted by the Wandering Writer and her dog. Should be fun!

The other pic I had planned for today is of the sky. I took it yesterday when I was leaving work, it was just lovely. I think I may use it as my new desk top pic on my laptop at home.
Tomorrow is Halloween, and I am sure I will be handing out treats to the little neighborhood ghouls and boyles. I plan on decorating the porch Friday. I already have my carved pumpkin out and it has been lit all week at night. But there are a few items I still have to dig out... They are all candle holders and give the porch a creepy orange glow. So fun!!
Sat should be pretty quiet, I may go to the Sprint store and look over the Rant, just to make sure it's what I really want. I'm not purchasing anything yet. Sunday i have work early in the AM, and then a Wedding at 3 pm. Should be fun as it will last well into the evening. LOL..

Remember yesterday when I said my cell phone was "one more tumble away from being destroyed, especially where the flip part is?" Well, make it a half tumble away now.... yup.... I thought I had put my phone in my pocket... when I got out of my car, that was not the case. Every thing on the phone still works fine, which I am totally thankful for. But now I have to look at a this!

Since I am not totally prepared to buy a new phone just yet, I called Sprint to see if the Phone insurance I pay for each month covers this. It appears so, but there is a $50 deductible... I have 60 days to report the claim, plenty of time to determine what to do here. Now I am truly debating is this phone worth the $50 deductible, or would it be better to just get a new one? Kind of like with my first Ipod, Peanut chewed it up, it worked but the screen was damaged. It would have cost me $100 or more to get the screen fixed, yet a new Ipod would be $150. That one was kind of a no-brainer. My other question is whether or not my job will be handing out Bonuses this year... Last year I got $500, previous year was $300. If I am getting a Bonus I will know pretty soon, they notified me via email early to mid-November last year, so I think the smart choice would be to wait and see what my Bonus amount is. Until then... I ponder and look at that crack!

It's been quite chilly recently, and at night Peanut jumps out of his bed into mine and under the blankets. When I get up in the morning, sometimes he doesn't. This is what he looks like.... I mean it's like it's his bed or something! LOL

And last but not least on the picture end of things... here is some of my make-up collection. As you will notice I am not afraid of color. The more neutral shades I reserve for work and what not. The brighter more vibrant shades I wear whenever I feel it's right...

October 28th, 2008

Well I carved my pumpkin last night... and here it is. I did pretty good I think.

After I was done carving I separated the seeds from the stringy mess they are attached to. Rinsed them and dried them. I then drizzled olive oil on them, salt and peppered them, added some garlic, and a touch of basil. I then baked the seeds for an hour at 250 degrees. The outcome is a taste treat that I think I will definitely be making again next year.

Today I also dropped 10 Halloween cards in the mail. I made them on Qoop out of a pic of Peanut in his skeleton costume. I sent them to some other schnauzer owners that I chit chat with via Peanut's myspace page. LOL ..silly I know, but believe it or not they send out cards and gifts as well. Sometimes Peanut gets more mail than anyone else in the house!

I've been contemplating getting a new cell phone. I have dropped mine tons of times and it looks relatively ok, but has some huge cracks in it. Sanyo does make a really durable phone, so I am impressed with it. But the cracks bother me... it's like it's one more tumble away from being destroyed, especially where the flip part is. I love the fact it's pink, color is now a key factor on when I purchase a new phone. I don't want black or silver... they are so plane Jane now. But I am torn between two very fancy phones on Sprint's website, both made by Samsung.

The Rant, with a slide out keyboard, or the Instinct, which is touch screen. Now I want an Ipod Touch, but would it be too "touchy" to have two products with touch screen capabilities? Quite possibly, the phrase less is more would absolutely fit here. I think it would be a bit excessive to have two touch screen products. I mean really, touch screen is cool, and pretty soon we will be living in a touch screen world, but for right now I feel two is too many. The Rant is cheaper than the Instinct, and it comes in red. It has all the same features as the Instinct, except the touch screen part, and there would be less screen for me to damage in a drop. I mean we all are clumsy at times... i.e. carrying cell phones, purses, a mug, shopping bags, and various other items all at once, we are bound to drop any to all of those items when our fingers can no longer carry the burden.

The Rant also has a very cool feature the Instinct does not... the ability to change your phone's favorites and other items from the web with Sprint One Click. I like that idea...

Alright enough of my ramblings for today....
The Rant
The Instinct

Last weekend when I went to Homestead Gardens to pick up my pumpkin, I saw they had orchids. Every time I go in there, they have them, and they are lovely. Work today has been really slow and as I sit here watch the clock tick down to the end of the day, I wonder if I could keep an orchid alive. I have never done any real planting, unless you count the $1 seeds I bought at Target one summer and planted. They turned out great, but orchids are very delicate looking.

Before I jump ship and buy one I have to do a little more research... are they human proof... are they stupid proof... how well will they with stand a dog that loves to smell flowers... etc. I think it would be lovely to have one in my room, but I am afraid I will kill it. I haven't killed my dog, but who's to say I won't kill this plant? And I think they require some sort of trimming or pruning after they stop blooming, which I might totally butcher.

Tonight when I get home I am planning on breaking out the carving tools and carving my pumpkin... hopefully with little disturbance from the family. Lord knows they like to talk my ear off and it distracts me terribly. My mom is the worst... granted she has MS and some of the things that come out her mouth are amazing. I guess when you have MS lesions on the brain that happens. And my dad relies on the info he gets from mom, which can be the most far fetched stories ever.... so it's kind of like having the blind lead the blind.

My older brother is supposed to go to New Orleans this week, and my question is who is taking care of the cats? They were supposed to be in new homes by now. He refuses to take them to a shelter which will find them new homes, because he doesn't want them living in cages. I even offered to drive them to our local SPCA in Baltimore, MD. This way they would be placed in homes and well cared for. One of them vomits on the constant and I think it might need some veterinary care, he's super skinny. My brother feeds them, but while the other cats are fat this one is vomiting and skinny. Hopefully he figures out what to do with them soon... 5 cats is one too many for a person.

Well I end this with a picture I found online while looking up orchids in wikipedia.....

The party was awesome! My appetizer was a hit, and my anti-tomato boyfriend liked it. LOL. I made one change to the recipe I posted a couple days back. Instead of Mayo, I grabbed a thing of Onion dip mix and sour cream, added the bacon, Parmesan cheese and garlic and filled the tomatoes. It was super yummy.

I brought home 3 dresses to try on for the wedding next Sunday, which includes the black satin dress I wanted to try on and see if I fit into. So dress is check!

I'm at work right now, so this one is going to be short. But leave you with the Dead Pirate, The Fem Bot, and Poison Ivy!

October 25, 2008

October 25th, 2008

I spent all day Friday looking for a dress to wear to a friend's wedding on the second, and naturally I procrastinated like no other on what to wear. Now, I did find some great dresses, but due to my high credit card balance (600.00 car repair) and my tiny budget, I could not buy any of the dresses. And it upset me... it upset me so much that I went to Sephora and splurged on some make up and perfume....The end result is that I will be basing my dress that I will be borrowing from my best friend, around one shade of eye shadow.

Now I have done worse... I have based an entire outfit around shoes, or maybe that's easier... Either way in the end I usually pull off an amazing look, and it doesn't look last minute at all. LOL. So for the wedding on November 2nd, I will be wearing this eye shadow, and possibly this black satin dress that my best friend has (if my booty will fit into it), and I will smell like Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B.

Shoes? I have tons of shoes...and if I don't have just the right pair, I will take myself to the Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse and buy a pair.... It's the place for a small budget, awesome shoe purchase!

Now I am off to do some laundry, take Peanut to the park, make my appetizer, and head to a party.

October 23, 2008

October 23rd, 2008

So I was trying to think of a appetizer to make for my best friends Halloween party.... I think this one will do. It says it's more of a summer recipe, but I'm italian (as is my best friend) and there is always a great time to serve tomatoes!! LOL... What's funny is that my boyfriend hates tomatoes....HATES THEM! He won't even try anything with an uncooked tomato. He's also half chinese and hates tea...... that one's a head scratcher huh?

Ok onto the recipe:

Bacon Stuffed Cherry Tomato Poppers

Prep Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:
2 pints cherry tomatoes
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese (NOT packaged)
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon dried basil leaves
16-oz. pkg. bacon, crisply cooked, drained, and crumbled

Preparation:

Cut the top off each cherry tomato, and using a melon baller or a sharp knife, carefully scoop out the seeds and pulp. Place each tomato upside down on paper towel to drain.
Combine the rest of the ingredients in a small bowl. Stuff each cherry tomato with the bacon mixture. Chill in fridge for at least 2 hours to blend flavors.

Ta daaaaaa!!! Peanut the skeleton.....

LOL... I can't wait to get pictures of him next to the pumpkin after I get that carved!!

October 20, 2008

October 20th, 2008

I got the pumpkin I am going to carve for Halloween this past weekend. Now I just have to figure out what to carve. I bought some new carving tools and got Peanut his costume. This year he is a skeleton! I was going to get him the hot dog costume, but they were sold out.

Mark and I attended a Halloween Party Saturday Night... it was ok. But I am really looking forward to my best friend's party this coming Saturday. I won't be able to stay long, but I will be there...

Arrr.... Where's me booty?! Oh wait... he be right next to me!! LOL

Update on the CBS job... I did not get the job. They hired within. But Dave did say he wanted to stay in touch with me and possibly place me somewhere else. He is supposed to call me later this week. It's a bummer, but I obviously made a positive impression on him, or else he wouldn't have said he wanted to stay in touch. And even though he said he wanted to be in touch, there is no garentee of a job ... so it's back to the hunt.

Yesterday Mark and I walked 3 miles, and we took Peanut with us. There was this trail by his house he is going to start running or biking, so that when he goes to Peru in January he will be in better shape and not tire as easily. I think it's a great idea. We did some more off leash walking with Peanut, and it was funny because if he felt he got too far ahead, he would stop and wait for us. And he didn't even take off after the squirrels on the path!! I'm amzed that I even walked the 3 miles mysef after Mark elbowed me in the knee unintentionally. And it wasn't just any knee, it was my left knee. The knee that has an issue called Patella Femoral Syndrome (I'm not even sure I spelled that right), where the muscles in the leg are took week to hold the knee cap in place, and something as simple as walking up steps can cause it to be displaced.

Now I know what you are thinking, how did he elbow you in the knee? Well, we were watching TV in his room, and he went to get up. Down came his elbow for leverage into my knee. I cried for 5 minutes because of the pain that was radiating through my leg. Now my knee is black and blue, and pretty swollen.... it sucks!!!

But in any case here is a funny picture for you that we took during the walk. Now I am off to ice some Halloween cupcakes I just baked. What a sweet treat!!!

More images of Fall.......

I was pleased to be asked by the broadcasting school I attended to write a short piece on my experience while attending the school back in 2002. It was kind of like writing a testament to how I've succeeded after broadcasting school. I was told that my short article would be placed in their 40th anniversary booklet, that would be handed out to future students, and alumni alike. If I get a copy of it I will post it on here for you all to read.

If you live in Maryland, or even Pennsylvania, and are interest in a career in radio or television broadcasting, call the Broadcasting Institute of Maryland to find out how you can get started. I know, a plug for them, but after all they were the ones who helped achieve my dream job!

Well I was able to get ahold of my interviewer today to find out if I was still in the running for the job, and where they were at in reaching a decision. I was told that they would call me back at the end of today after they made their decision. Well as I am typing this it's well past the end of the day and I want to know if I got the job. Chances are they have already left for the day and you better believe I will be calling on Friday to find out if I have been selected for the position. I did manage to get some positive feed back on my interview, he said I was very pleasant and he enjoyed interviewing me. I'll take that as I did good!!

I can't stand waiting...... I want to know if I got the job! I want to know if I will finally have health insurance again, because I have been without it for a little over two years now. I want to know if I get to move forward after a year of fervently applying at just about every station I could find with openings... I want to know damn it! I'm patient, but I also like answers!!

Now here is something I never though I would see again.... gas below $3 a gallon......Yea I know it's only $2.99 in this picture for regular, but I mean that's still below $3! Back when a gallon of redular gas was up around $4 in our area, I had a nightmare that gas went up about $6 a gallon and I couldn't affor to get to work anymore. It was insane.

I'm always amazed in the fall by the sky when the sun sets. It's almost as pretty as the leaves changing. All the pinks and oranges. I like the colors of fall, but not so much the chill of it. And you can forget winter.... booo...But this fall has been really warm. At least in my opinion it's been really warm.

October 14, 2008

October 14th, 2008

Since I get paid tomorrow, I am definately taking a trip to get a couple pumpkins this year. I love to carve pumpkins! It's actually pretty fun, yet totally tiring. And I think I may bake the pumpkin seeds this year. I have never tried doing that, so it will be a first for me.

I was really happy with last years pumpkin! I loved it. I still loved it after my boyfriend knocked it over outside and then put it back together with toothpicks.. LOL... woops!!

I have no idea what I am going to carve this year... any ideas? I do know that I have to buy some new carving tools because my other ones broke last year...
This weekend I tried something new with Peanut. I usually keep him on a leash at all times while we are taking our walk. One of the areas we walk through is a high traffic area, so he will definately have to be on a leash. Too many cars and my poor heart would break if he got hit. So as we made the turn back onto our street this weekend I unhooked his leash. My boyfriend was with me so I had a team member if Peanut decided that he was going to bolt. I won't say I don;t trust my dog, I will say he can be quite mischevious, and what he thinks is a fun game of chase, is really not so fun.

He was really good for the off leash part of the walk. He walked right beside Mark and I. He stopped to watch a squirrel, and much to my surprise and delight, he did not take off after it. There may be many more off leash momments to come for him...... I wonder how he would do in the back yard? We don't have part of it fenced, because it needs to be replaced and I usually put him out on a lead.

Update on job: No word yet on the job after my interview Friday. I will be calling Dave, my interviewer tomorrow to follow up. Hopefully I will have some good news. I know he said he would be in touch, but I think I should definately call.

Every year our local fire dept tries to educate the community by setting a structure on fire and then putting it out. It's pretty interesting. I think people are actually just drawn to watch the fire, no so much for the education. Fire safety is a must!!

I just wanted to update you on my interview. I think it went well. My scheduled time was 10 am, I got there around 935, went back to start the interview process around 945. The interview was for the position of Full Time Continuity Director and Production Assistant. Dave Labrozzi asked me if I knew what a Continuity Director was and what it entailed. I told him my perspective, was that the Continuity Director communicates with Traffic, Sales and Production to ensure that Spots are aired on time, and that if they don't the station looses revenue. Which is a huge loss and can reflect badly on the station, but also the Continuity Director.

I expressed to him my interest to be in an environment such as CBS radio where there is an opportunity to do and be more. I think I shocked him when he asked me what my dream job would be. My answer was that I was already in my dream job of radio, but that possibly one day in the future I would like to run a radio station as a GM. He showed me around the facilities, which are really nice. When we got back to his office, he asked me if I fully understood that the position is not a normal 9-5, and that some days the hours would be longer than others. And that my job would be the most important job.

I was confident, and I felt I sold myself well. That I am organized and detail oriented, and that I am not afraid to call someone in the sales dept and ask where is my copy that is supposed to air tomorrow. I'm not afraid to put in the time it takes to get the job not only done, but done right, and that I felt I could do this job really well if given the chance. Dave said he still had a couple candidates to interview, but that he would be in touch. He gave me his card, and said I could call him at anytime if I had any questions, or wanted to follow up with him.

I'm going to drop a thank you card in the mail Saturday, and give him a call either Tuesday or Wednesday. This way the card gets to him, and when I call I am still in his fresh in his memory, rather than wait for him to call me.

"I'm so excited... and I just can't hide it..... I'm about to loose control and think I like it.... "

Tomorrow morning at 10 am I have in interview with a gentleman at CBS Radio Baltimore, for the position of Full Time Continuity Director and Production Assistant. I've been doing my happy dance all morning... :-)

Keep those prayers coming, and I will let you know how it all turns out!!!

I'm so excited I can barely focus on work!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Have you ever been listening to the radio or a CD and have a pet that stopped what they were doing when a song came on and looked at you like, "What in the world is that?" Well that is what made me crack up laughing this morning as I was getting ready for my trip into what I now refer to as Hell. I'll expand on that at a later time.

I was combing out my wet hair while Peanut chewed happily on the floor with his bully stick. My radio in my room sucks, so I invested a while back in a satellite receiver from XM radio. I already had them in my car, so why not the house? Seemed logical. As I stood there, combing away, Santogold came on the channel I was listening to, which was 47 Ethel. The song was Creator, and it has a very funky beginning with some crazy noises. Peanut stopped chewing, looked around and then looked at me... I thought it was hilarious. After he realized it was nothing to be concerned with he went back to happily chewing, and proceeded to blow dry my hair.

I love listening to XM, I'm sorry it's now Sirius XM. So far I haven't noticed any changes in the channels that I listen to, so I'm pretty happy. It was funny my older brother had Sirius in his jeep before the merger, and I had XM before the merger. When I listened to the Sirius channels, they just weren't appealing to me... I hope there won't be too many changes to the channel line up, but whatever be will be. I just hope that the company realizes there are die-hard XM fans, and die-hard Sirius fans, and any changes may upset them. But those die-hard fans will have to take all changes with a grain of salt.

No new news on the job front for me.... I'm still optimistic....

October 7, 2008

October 7th, 2008

I haven't heard anything or from anyone as of yet about my application for the position at CBS radio Baltimore, WWMX. I called and left another voicemail, and I am *this close* to stalking employees of the station on myspace to try and get someone to call me. And the CBS radio website where I submitted my application, tell me they have my application and resume.

Fingers are still crosssed and I am still praying... I will let you know as I know.

In other news, my mom went in for minor surgery today. She had some cyst removed from her neck.... She must be feeling ok, because she has already sent me every forward in her email inbox! LOL... Many of them I have already seen. I may leave work a touch early today, so that I can go home and keep my dog from driving her bonkers... Lord knows how long he was in his crate today. I think we may be jogging instead of walking today!

P.S. Thank you everyone for thinking of me and praying that I get this new job.... Please keep it up!!! I need this new job like a fish needs to swim!!

October 6, 2008

October 6th, 2008

Here is Peanut after a half hour at the dog park. He had the best time walking around and sniffing other dogs, and meeting people. I recenlty bought him some salmon dry dog food at Crunchies and I've noticed he has a bit of fishy breath. LOL... I'm going to have to figure out how to releive that ASAP.

I'm still on the hunt for a new job, and I am sticking to my guns and staying positive. I did get some good news over the weekend. My friend Jill, who just had the baby, told me she called her buddy Spam to see if she could get any info on the job I applied for CBS. The good news, Spam had heard my name earlier that day and said he was going to look over my info and give me a call. The bad news to this, because there is always bad news, is that there is another candidate that wants the position and was filling in for Spam while he was away, which gives him the advantage of already having his foot inthe door. I'm still going to call up there tomorrow morning and see if I can get a hold of the HR lady, I left her a voicemail Friday.

So everyday I have been saying out loud, " I will get a new job at CBS radio." I have also been praying on my way to work, while at work, and on my way home from work. I'm miserable where I am at, but I love my career feild in radio. So a new job would be just the change I need to renew my spirit and love for my job.

I'll keep you posted on what happens next....... Fingers crossed, and prayers said! I need this new job.

This beautiful brick house was built by my grandfather, my dad's dad. I never met him, but he built a great house. I haven't lived there in about 10 years now, but every now and again I will dream that I am back in the house.

Before I go I have a quick congratulations to send out to my friend Gillian Summers. She gave birth today to a 7 pound, 11 ounce baby boy. I can't wait to meet him!

October 2, 2008

October 2nd, 2008

So yesterday I was trying to download some music from Amazon.com, and it kept telling me my payment method was no good. Odd because I had just used it the day before... so I checked my checking account, and there was money in there. I decided to wait it out and see what happened, rather than call my bank and send an email to Amazon. I'm glad I waited it out because late last night I received an email from Amazon saying they were sorry that when I tried to purchase music earlier it didn't work (no reason given as to why it didn't work, but whatever) and that they had credited me with a $5 gift certificate I could use at any time..... SCORE! LOL... I have used 99 cents of it on a song by Flogging Molly called Float. Pretty cool song I think.

Last night I got soaked while giving Peanut a bath. He was not a happy guy about getting a bath. He usually will tolerate the bath as long as I don't try to wash his face, but I had to this time. So water and soap were everywhere. I use the kitchen sink because it has a spray nozzle and I can rinse him way quicker than if I were in the bathroom with him during this. During his bath I located one flea on him, which was dead from the soap. It's been a terrible year for fleas at my house!

OK back to work I go. I'm awaiting the music from the Israeli Lady so that I can assemble her radio show, and get this, she's getting it to me before 3 pm! YES!!!! Makes me so happy! She said last weeks show was perfect and that she loved it. Awesome, I worked really hard on it.

Tomorrow I am off from work, so I will be getting the oil changed in my car and calling CBS Baltimore to check the status of my application. I managed to get the name of the HR person, so hopefully I can get through. Fingers crossed, I'm not sitting back and waiting. I am going to get a new job in radio, and push my career forward. And that is that folks!

Here is a pic I took at the Falls Church Station I work at on Sundays...

My boss sent me this a while back, it's from the Philadelphia Station. they have an Italian program, and the host brought in a monkey one day!

October 1st, 2008

Another day, another no. I received an email this AM from NPR (National Public Radio), and sadly the position I applied for, I was turned down for. They didn't even bring me in for an interview! If they had brought me in for an interview I'm sure I could have won them over and had a new job. I feel just looking at some one's resume should not be what does them justice, you definitely meet with them, and get a feel for who they are. It gets very frustrating for me, I apply and get No's. At least their no was polite, much like VOA (Voice of America). But a lot of places don't inform me of the no, they just let me sit and wonder. I have two other applications out there circulating and when I get a free moment here at work I will most definitely search some more... Right now I have two other applications out. One at CBS Radio, and one at Radio-One, so all hope is not lost. It's just reduced by one.

In other news, I received the most wonderful award from The Wandering Writer and Her Dog for my blog. I just want to say thank you and I hope I have 7 people to give this to... This award really helped put a smile on my face, and today I needed it.

The recipients are as follows:

The Sandy Dog Bakery

The Soon-To-Be-More-Famous Artist Named Nemo

MISS GLITZY

Shoes From Around the Globe

Dog Parks

Howlin' Hounds

I actualy do not have 7 people to give this too, but the rules are that you have to give it to 7 people. So if you are a recipient, be sure to pass along to 7 other bloggers.

OK, I have a whole bunch of work to do....
