There is something funny about this picture....

This is a Christmas Cactus, it is supposed to bloom at Christmas time. Well last I checked it's February, and not Christmas. LOL... I guess it's just a touch confused.

So last month (January) I ordered for Mark a replica New Orleans Saints Jersey with his last name and the year he was born. I have had his gift wrapped and ready to give to him since maybe mid-February, ha ha. But I was really good I did not cave early and give it to him.

So yesterday I gave him his gift and..... he really liked it! I was so nervous that he wasn't going to like it at all, and that totally wasn't the case.

But Marie, why the New Orleans Saints, don't you live in Maryland? Yes we both live in Maryland, but for no reason other than he just likes the Saints, is the reason they are Mark's favorite football team. It was funny, he tried to trick me by saying I spelled his last name wrong. And after he kept putting on the jersey and looking at it, like he was really impressed that I got him such a cool gift.

After Mark opened his gift we went to dinner and had some sushi. Sooo good. We have attempted to make sushi before, but for some reason it just tastes better when someone else makes it, and it's cheep to eat out with that rather than make it. Ha ha. It was really cool, and I am now kicking myself for not taking a picture of it, but the sushi chef (why does that not sound right) placed the sushi we ordered on a plate in the shape of a heart. It was so pretty looking, but I was starving and dove right in.

When we got home he then started showing off his Jersey to his roommate. It was really funny! For dessert I expected he would eat some of his ice cream I got him from Cold Stone, instead he dove into some goodies his step-mom made. He really doesn't like her, and I don't have time to get into the details as to why, but he only refers to her by her first name. And he says it with such force, like saying it gives him a bitter taste in his mouth. Anyway, she sent him some brownies and oatmeal raisin cookies for his birthday, and they were pretty good. So I did not get to put a candle in his ice cream and make him make a wish...Next time!

In this bag is a gift...

Today is Mark's birthday and I can't wait to give him his gift. He on the other hand is not too happy it's his birthday, maybe it's a guy thing. Maybe it's because he is now 32.... But he really doesn't want to do much for his birthday. I plan on stopping by Cold Stone Creamery for some yummy ice cream before getting to his house. Unfortunately I forgot the candle I was going to place in the ice cream for him to blow out. I will have to remember it later when I stop home to walk Peanut before heading to Mark's.

A full unveil of his gift tomorrow with a report on if it was a winner!

I have decided after much deliberation to send back the eye shadow palette I bought from Sephora. After dipping my brush into the beautiful colors, I decided some of them have too much glitter in them, and I am not 12 anymore. Plus as a contact lens wearer, I fear flakes of glitter around my eyes, because it could cause a scratch or two if the glitter gets in my eyes and under the lenses.

Moving on...

When I arrived home, the tell tale box labeled Steve Madden was sitting on a chair in the kitchen...and I knew exactly what was inside.

These lovery soles are mine for the wearing, and they fit ever so perfectly. I can't wait till Vegas when I wear them out for the Bachelorette. I may wear them out before hand, if the opportunity presents itself. Until they sit on top of Peanut's crate for me to lovingly adore them.

I know, I know.... my legs are really white, but not to worry once spring/summer hits they will be tan in no time... and yes I did stick my feet in the air to admire my new soles!

When I got home yesterday, sitting on my dresser was a box from Sephora. My treasure of make-up had arrived....

Inside was a few samples, and my selection...

1 nail polish called "It's all about me"

1 tube of hand moisturizer, full report on this at a later date. But so far the smell reminds me of Gardenias.

and 1 palate of eyeshadow

You will notice that the colors of the shadow are pretty neutral... but that's OK by me because during the week while working I wear more neutral colors rather than my eye popping hot pink shadow or my tantalizing teal eye liner.

The shadow box came with a mini sponge applicator, but I will not be using it. I've grown accustom to using brushes, and now can't even fathom using those tiny spongy things on my eyes. Once you master the brush, you never go back.

Can you see me???

According to the UPS tracking on my Steve Madden Shoe Order, my Fuchsia Heels are in transit and on time, and scheduled for delivery for tomorrow....

Let me tell you before these lovely soles were shipped, I had a brief scare. Steve Madden released the shoe early and my checking account I use for "fun money" and "unexpected expenditures" was just a touch below the total amount for the shoes. So, I received an email from S.M. stating there was a problem and to give them a call. The thing was I was going to make a deposit that night into the account and the money would totally be there next day. When I called, I spoke with a snooty, yet very helpful customer service guy, who was able to recycle the order and get it processed.

What a close call for such a loverly pair of soles...

I'm expecting another box today from Sephora... I ordered some make-up and a nail polish. I also ordered some hand lotion... this past winter has been brutal on my hands. And no matter what I use, it doesn't seem to help. My mom and I have the same issue with our hands. When they get dried out, our finger tips crack. It's not that painful, just very weird feeling. It happens on the side where our finger prints are, as well as around our finger nails and cuticles. It was because of this drying and cracking that when my mom was still working for a cell phone company, she was the only one who had a time card to use instead of finger print scanning. So I will be testing out Sephora's hand lotion and see if it helps... or not.

This morning the world is a-buzz with the Oscar winners... I frankly didn't watch them. I have been quite board with Award shows in recent years, but I will be sure to catch up with all the winners speeches on You Tube.

P.S. Don't worry pics of the long awaited S.M. Fuchsia Soles will be up as soon as they are in my hot little hands!

I have a great many things on my walls of my room at home. My tastes in art varies from tropical themes to asian accents. One of my favorite items is this butterfly I bought while in Key West, FL in 2006. I know you can't see the colors well in this photo, but it's black with green and blue markings. I made my purchase at Wings of Imagination, and have every intent of making another in the future.

I have always loved the colors of butterflies. As a child I was lucky enough to catch one in my hands, and I didn't want to open them because I knew that butterfly would flit away on the breeze. But then of course, as moms often do, she made me release it. I would later catch lightening bugs in a jar and release them into the house....which was actually quite funny. Mom didn't think so though.

It's amazing, the care instructions that came with the butterfly are so detailed.

  • Do not place in direct sunlight, as it will cause the butterfly to fade.
  • Do not use Windex to clean the the Plexiglas box, the chemicals could cause the butterfly to disintegrate.
  • Be gently with your butterfly, as any rough jolt could cause it to break.
  • Dust the box with a soft, dry cloth.
When I was bringing the delight home on the plane I worried that it wouldn't make in home in one piece and gently cradled the bubble-wrapped prize in my lap. But as you can see, it made it home in one piece, and still rests on my wall, reminding me of the times when I would chase butterflies in the back yard.

"Can I have that chicken treat now, please?"

Many times when I am at home I will often hear Peanut barking at the other end of the house. When I get there, he is sitting on my bed, staring at his drawer (it's labeled), and barking intently because he knows inside are the best treats he has ever tasted. The treats are made by Dogswell and are of course all natural... literally. I usually get Peanut the dried chicken breast treats, and recently I got him the apple and chicken treats. It's pieces of apple, with chicken wrapped around it. He get more excited about these treats than his buddy buscuits!!

I found the chicken breat one in Target recently, and then upon investigating a corner of the organic dog food store I go to, I found the apple and chicken ones.

I visited the Dogswell website and viewed thier information page, and they addressed teh issue of salmonelia contamination and how they prevent it in their treats. For example, the chicken breast jerky I buy is cooked for 10 hours at 160 degrees, to kill the bacteria and to makes sure nothing is left behind. As a concerned pet owner this is what I like to hear, especially with all the recalls that are going on with the Peanut butter, some of it even affecting pets.

**Don't forget if you haven't voted for Peanut and made a donation to the HSUS, you can follow the link on the right side of my blog. The votes end March 6th... and that's just around the corner.

Just yesterday while watching some entertainment news, a report surfaced that a designer in Germany called Heidi Klum fat...... WHAT?! The Victoria's Secret Super Model/Mom of 3 is definitely not fat! There is not one fat cell on her finely tuned super model butt! If any little girl looks at her and believes that she is fat, we have a BIG problem.

Which brings me to a whole separate issue. Girls today have terrible self esteem. In fact I have moments where I have low self esteem, and I am 28. Growing up all I heard was, you are too skinny. Now I have grown into my skin, and I hear that I need to loose a few pounds. It's like I can't win. We live in a world where image is everything, and if you do not look like the model on a magazine cover then there is obviously something wrong. Flaws aren't embraced, they are despised.

Now then, we as Americans are an "I want it now" country. We love instant gratification, which makes fast food restaurants so popular. The reason our children are facing the health issues they are facing along with childhood obesity, is because we feed them fast food and plunk them down in front of the TV to overstimulate their brains so that later in life they are pretty much dependant on that to function. The average teenager spends more than 30 hours a week on a computer. That's a lot of time for a developing brain.

Frankly, pull your kids off the computers and couches, shove them outside and lock the door. OK, maybe don't lock the door, but at least make a rule that they cannot come in unless it's to use the bathroom. If they are bored with the outside, tell them to make up a game and run around crazy-like. If kids ran around outside playing games made up via the imagination rather than playing games on a computer/TV... there may be less cases of childhood obesity. Just saying!

OK... I forgot where I was going with all this, but Heidi Klum is not fat!

Back in 2006 When Mark and I started dating he gave me two tickets to a concert that he was working for the radio station he worked at then. I took a girlfriend of mine, she was really excited that I shared my free ticket with her. We had so much fun at the two day concert. And I got to hang out with Mark some of the time too.

Well one of the acts was Matisyahu, and I had never heard of him before. It was really cool to see a Hasidic Jew doing Reggae... and unique at that.

This morning as I was getting ready for work, Sirius XM Channel 47 played one of his songs, and I thought to myself, 'Do people in Israel like Matisyahu?'

I'll have to ask the Israeli Show how we have the next time I talk to her.

I had a wonderful Valentine's Day! It started really early because I was filling in for the guy that works on Sat, but after work I went to Mark's and he made me waffles. He joked that every day for me is Valentine's day because he is always making me dinner or lunch or both. LOL... let me tell you I love all of it. The guy I dated before Mark wasn't a great guy. He never cooked for me, and for some reason whenever we ate out (which was all the time) I always ended up paying. Eventually I stopped wanting to take him places with me, not only because of the paying, but because it was like he was attached to me at the hip, and I felt like I couldn't breathe. I think it's safe to say we were not a match... LOL. But enough about the past...

After waffles, I had to head home and finish laundry. Oi... when you have an extra day of work it kind of throws you off. For Valentine's I gave Peanut extra hugs and snuggle time. Lord knows that furry little guy loves to snuggle while watching Animal Planet. We even took an extra long walk! After laundry was done, I went back to Mark's for dinner. After dinner I had a special treat for him. Smores! Ha ha... we made smores for our Valentine's Dessert... and the Marshmallows were pink and tasted kind of like strawberry quick.

happy valentines day Pictures, Images and Photos

Valentine's Day or Saint Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrated on February 14 by many people throughout the world. In the West, it is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other by sending Valentine's cards, presenting flowers, or offering confectionery. The holiday is named after two among the numerous Early Christian martyrs named Valentine. The day became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. The day is most closely associated with the mutual exchange of love notes in the form of "valentines." Modern Valentine symbols include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten notes have largely given way to mass-produced greeting cards. The sending of Valentines was a fashion in nineteenth-century Great Britain, and, in 1847, Esther Howland developed a successful business in her Worcester, Massachusetts home with hand-made Valentine cards based on British models. The popularity of Valentine cards in 19th-century America was a harbinger of the future commercialization of holidays in the United States.

The U.S. Greeting Card Association estimates that approximately one billion valentines are sent each year worldwide, making the day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year, behind Christmas. The association estimates that, in the US, men spend in average twice as much money as women.

Here is what Wikipedia has to say about Friday the 13th!

Phobia

The fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia, a word derived from the concatenation of the Greek words Paraskeví (Παρασκευή) (meaning Friday), and dekatreís (δεκατρείς) (meaning thirteen), attached to phobía (φοβία) (meaning fear). This is a specialized form of triskaidekaphobia, a simple phobia (fear) of the number thirteen, and is also known as friggatriskaidekaphobia. The term triskaidekaphobia was derived in 1911 and first appeared in a mainstream source in 1953.

History

According to folklorists, there is no written evidence for a "Friday the 13th" superstition before the 19th century. The earliest known documented reference in English occurs in an 1869 biography of Gioachino Rossini:

[Rossini] was surrounded to the last by admiring and affectionate friends; and if it be true that, like so many other Italians, he regarded Friday as an unlucky day, and thirteen as an unlucky number, it is remarkable that on Friday, the 13th of November, he died.

However, some folklore is passed on through oral traditions. In addition, "determining the origins of superstitions is an inexact science, at best. In fact, it's mostly guesswork."Consequently, several theories have been proposed about the origin of the Friday the 13th superstition.

One theory states that it is a modern amalgamation of two older superstitions: that thirteen is an unlucky number and that Friday is an unlucky day.

  • In numerology, the number twelve is considered the number of completeness, as reflected in the twelve months of the year, twelve signs of the zodiac, twelve hours of the clock, twelve tribes of Israel, twelve Apostles of Jesus, twelve gods of Olympus, etc., whereas the number thirteen was considered irregular, transgressing this completeness. There is also a superstition, thought by some to derive from the Last Supper or a, that having thirteen people seated at a table will result in the death of one of the diners.
  • Friday has been considered an unlucky day at least since the 14th century's The Canterbury Tales, and many other professions have regarded Friday as an unlucky day to undertake journeys or begin new projects. Black Friday has been associated with stock market crashes and other disasters since the 1800s. It has also been suggested that Friday was the day that Jesus was crucified.

On the other hand, another theory by author Charles Panati, one of the leading authorities on the subject of "Origins" maintains that the superstition can be traced back to ancient myth:

The actual origin of the superstition, though, appears also to be a tale in Norse mythology. Friday is named for Frigga, the free-spirited goddess of love and fertility. When Norse and Germanic tribes converted to Christianity, Frigga was banished in shame to a mountaintop and labeled a witch. It was believed that every Friday, the spiteful goddess convened a meeting with eleven other witches, plus the devil - a gathering of thirteen - and plotted ill turns of fate for the coming week. For many centuries in Scandinavia, Friday was known as "Witches' Sabbath."

Another theory about the origin of the superstition traces the event to the arrest of the legendary Knights Templar. According to one expert:

The Knights Templar were a monastic military order founded in Jerusalem in 1118 C.E., whose mission was to protect Christian pilgrims during the Crusades. Over the next two centuries, the Knights Templar became extraordinarily powerful and wealthy. Threatened by that power and eager to acquire their wealth, King Philip secretly ordered the mass arrest of all the Knights Templar in France on Friday, October 13, 1307 - Friday the 13th.

The connection between the superstition and the Knights Templar was popularized in the 2003 novel The Da Vinci Code, however, some experts think that it is relatively recent and is a modern-day invention. For example, the superstition is rarely found before the 20th century, when it became extremely common. One author, noting that references are all but nonexistent before 1907 but frequently seen thereafter, has argued that its popularity derives from the publication that year of Thomas W. Lawson's popular novel Friday, the Thirteenth, in which an unscrupulous broker takes advantage of the superstition to create a Wall Street panic on a Friday the 13th.

Social impact

According to the Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute in Ashville, North Carolina, an estimated 17 to 21 million people in the United States are affected by a fear of this day. Some people are so paralyzed by fear that they avoid their normal routines in doing business, taking flights or even getting out of bed. "It's been estimated that $800 or $900 million is lost in business on this day". Despite this, representatives for both Delta and Continental Airlines say that their airlines don't suffer from any noticeable drop in travel on those Fridays.

Rate of accidents

There are conflicting studies about the risk of accidents on Friday the 13th. The Dutch Centre for Insurance Statistics (CVS) on June 12, 2008, stated that "fewer accidents and reports of fire and theft occur when the 13th of the month falls on a Friday than on other Fridays, because people are preventatively more careful or just stay home; but statistically speaking, driving is a little bit safer on Friday 13th; in the last two years, Dutch insurers received reports of an average 7,800 traffic accidents each Friday; but the average figure when the 13th fell on a Friday was just 7,500. However, a 1993 study in the British Medical Journal that compared the ratio of traffic accidents between Friday the 6th and Friday the 13th, stated that there is a significant increase in traffic-related accidents on Fridays the 13th.

This is the kind of crazy I work with! My co-worker placed a screw in the locking mechanism of the door knob because "people" leave the door unlocked. He also claims the door opens by itself. This isn't the only thing he's screwed....he also screwed the hallway carpet runners to the floor. I'm not kidding!

Every morning I wake up and pray, "Please let this be my day."

Valentines day is coming up and while most people plan on doing something sweet for their sweet heart, I actually don't get that excited about it. LOL... I mean yea I got Mark a card, and will possibly pick up some candy we can share, but other than that I feel like V-Day is just another day.

I guess I just feel like you should tell your loved one you love them everyday... not just one day a year.

I have a unique love for paper! At any given time you will find at least 3 note pads lying around my room. I was never the kid who liked school, but the kid who like shopping for school supplies. LOL

Well I was in Target last night and I stopped off in their dollar section to look around.

I found a note pad with little skulls on it... very rock n' roll! I love it.

So then I thought, I bet I can take a picture of the skulls with my camera, crop them out, and make a really awesome wallpaper for my cell phone. So I set to work with photoshop and the cropped skull pictures. And this is what came out of it....

I had a busy weekend this weekend. Friday I went with Mark to his niece's 5th birthday party. It was pretty fun, but very tiring. Saturday I cleaned and did laundry, then Mark and I went to eat dinner with my best friend and her fiance. After I got home from dinner, to go to bed, I got hit with a terrible migraine. I got literally no sleep. I was so tired Sunday, that I cat-napped all day.

So now it's Monday and I have nothing to really blog about. Ha ha.. it happens.

If I tagged your on Feb 4th... go here and collect your prize!

I took time this past weekend to update my picture store. I have removed a lot of the items I had originally had up. Now it's primarily images, but guess what? You can pick the image(s) and make them into whatever your heart's desire is. You want a mug, go ahead. Mouse pad, sure why not! I've made it so that you are not limited to whatever I think would be an awesome item.

But for all you Mini Schnauzer lovers I have left up the mug and key chain... because well... they are cute.

I'm actually waiting until next payday to order myself a mug for work. This way I can rotate between work mug and schnauzer mug.

This morning I woke up and it had snowed again! I had no idea it was going to snow again. It wasn't much, just about a half inch or so, and by the time I went out to clean off my car, it had already started to melt. On my way to work I noticed some ice that had frozen in place while I was driving. Well the temp out was just at freezing but I thought it was lovely with the way the light hit it.

Not the best picture, as I was driving, but you get the idea!

Yay! Mark's birthday gift has been shipped, so it should arrive shortly. His birthday isn't until the of the month, but that gives me plenty of time to wrap it and make sure everything is copacetic! This morning we woke up to light snow falling. Barely any accumulation is expected, but just in case I put down some pet safe ice melt.

I've decided to try and eat more fruit as a snack while at work. So far for the past two weeks, I have brought an apple and an orange to work with me. Plus the seeds from the orange are a tell tale sign that my super-paranoid, over-compulsive freak of a co-worker has decided to dig through my trash can. Yea.... I know.... I need a new job!
