Today at work a dogg came in and he looked just like Toto from the wizard of oz!

Here is another hit ghost story from Mary Ann Winkowski. The Ice Cradle follows Anza O'Malley, a freelance book binder, as she travels to block island. There she is working on a book binding job involving the history of a ship that sank, and she encounters quite a few ghosts along the way that are from the ship sinking. Anza also has to figure out how to tell her son about his shared abilities of seeing ghosts....except he is five years old.

I love Mary Ann Winkowski and her ghost books. I can't wait for the next one. Her ghost stories aren't scary, but they are entertaining. So check it out.

I just finished reading this book and it was amazing. It's called Fireflies in December.  Such a great story about adversity and how one family went with what was right to them than be bullied by others.  I mean this sentance alone peaked my interest: "When her best friend Gemma's parents are killed in a house fire, Jessilyn Lassiter's parents take the girl in. Trouble is, the year is 1932, Gemma is black, the Lassiters are white, and they live in a small Virginia town."  I found myself in love with the main character Jessie Lynn, and really rooting for her.  I even had trouble putting the book down... and with my work schedule this week that was pretty rough.

So check it out, you won't be disappointed.  I have placed on my wish list the two other books that follow called Cottonwood Whispers and Catching Moondrops.  I can't wait to download them and read them.

Up next I am reading another Mary Ann Winkowski book, called The Ice Cradle.  So stay tuned on my review of that book.  You may remember that I read a book by her called The Book of Illumination and I wrote about it in my blog last year on March 31st, 2010.  I loved the book.  I love ghost stories, and this one was just great.  It wasn't a creepy story, but it was a great story.  So I will let you know how this one goes as well.  Have a great day everyone!!

Sometimes working in the salon can be so out of control, because some of the dogs are un-neutered, and they really need to be neutered.  They are just insane.  They bark, bite, lunge, pull, and just generally act up.  Sometimes all you need is some training classes and for your dog to be neutered or spayed and all that craziness will calm down.

I guess until some people get the idea that it is actually beneficial for your dog to be spayed/neutered, and to go through training classes, my arms will probably still look like this.

I just finished reading this book, it's called The Family Bones.  It was an Amazon.com recommendation, and I gave it a whirl.  At first I thought it was going to be about a family's secret past.  And it kind of was...except the sci-fi part.  Aliens.

After I read that the guy was half alien, I lost my zeal for this book.  I can't help it.  I think aliens from outer space in books, and on most shows and in movies, are lame.  I guess they just that aren't believable to me.  Ghosts... now there is something believable!

All in all the plot was good, so if you want you can give it a whirl yourself.

199102_1841878854440_1464651566_1906226_3170571_n  Today I was feeling a little creative.  I decided that my pink ballet flats, which kind of look like ballet shoes, needed a little clean up and re-vamping.  So I did just that.  I applied some shoe cleaner, and got some of the dirt out of the pink satin.  Then I removed the old laces that came with them.  They looked so dirty and stringy, and it was time for them to go. I found some ribbon that I had purchased early on in the winter, that I knew I would use for something.  I just wasn’t sure for what at the time.  This is the end result!

185659_1841881214499_1464651566_1906229_5738467_n  Cute, huh?  Yup, this creative work of shoe genius was all me.

I gave Peanut an at home haircut with my new clippers I got. They are the same ones I will be using in the salon at Petsmart. I did ok, I just need to work on his face some more.

The other night I dreamed I was a dancer and had the most gorgeous legs.  And I wasn't just any dancer, I was a ballet dancer.  I was very graceful and could charm anyone I danced for.

I have never taken ballet, and I have never been to the ballet.  But I am fascinated by how they can get up on their tippy toes and twirl around.  Maybe in another life I can a graceful ballet dancer....

I got Peanut a new bed.  It’s pretty nice looking.  I was able to get it for less than 20 bucks too.  I like that working for Petsmart you get 15% off everything in the store, and that means that when things are on sale, like this dog bed, I can get a really great deal.

I’m learning a lot of new things while working as a bather.  Nail trims are now easier, and I know how to scoop out the eyes on dogs so that they can see.  I also know how to shave the sanitary areas, and pads on paws.  I’m looking forward to going to grooming school in the future, but I hope I don’t go to the one this one girl just came back from.  Her teacher didn’t teach her anything, so now the salon manager has to teach her.  The whole point of the groom school is to learn how to do specific breed haircuts.

After reading the book, I am excited about the movie.  I'm sure it won't be exactly the same, but I'm excited.  And, here in the Baltimore area Ringling Brothers is coming to town March 30th - April 10th.  I am TOTALLY going to go to the circus.  I haven't been in forever.  It should be amazing.....

I did a little make up shopping at Sephora online during the week last week.  I love their eye shadows.  So light and versatile.  Plus I was looking for a specific color that I just could not find.  It’s a very neutral shade and I like to wear that during my work day with a little eyeliner.  This way I have some make up on, but not so much that it requires a lot of work to put on in the morning before hand.

So I picked out the All Wrapped Up Eye Collection for $34.  Six colors to choose from.  Yes it is Christmas and New Years related, but you can wear these colors all year round.

The colors are from right to left:

Top: Present, The Gift, and Garland

Bottom: Mistletoe, Tinsel, Bauble

I have used the color Present, and it’s such a soft pink that you can barely see it.  I like it though.  The other colors I have not worn yet, but I may wear either Garland, Mistletoe, or Bauble to work today.

I bought a new nail polish. It's by a company called Dreams, and the color is called Diamond in the Rough.

Pretty cool.

You can get your own  here.

So while working at Petsmart as a bather, I have learned quite a few things.  I'm now much better at trimming nails on dogs, as well as on Peanut.  Before I never knew what I was looking for and how often it should be done.  One of my favorite things now is the nail grinder.  Most dogs will tolerate the grinder better than the clippers, and it really makes nail trims quick and painless.  But some dogs do not like their feet touched at all, so nail grinding or not, it can be quite the struggle.

This is the one we use in the salon at Petsmart.  It is pretty awesome.  And I just ordered one for at home off amazon.com.  I can't wait to use it on Peanut.  Maybe once it arrives I will do a video demonstration on nail grinding.  It's pretty easy.

Amazing book!  Amazing, amazing, amazing!  I literally just finished this book and it was just amazing.

I love the story.  I was so enthralled by the book my dreams were about the circus.  Course the circus has evolved over the years, and my oh my it has been forever since I have been to one.

Jacob has lost his family and his home.  Wandering one night he sees a train coming and hitches a ride.  That ride ends up being one of the most exciting times of his life.

In my opinion, you have to read this.  It has murder, an animal stampede, and what seems to be a look behind the scenes of what went on in the circuses of the 1930's.
