I bought a new eyeshadow over the weekend from Sephora. I stopped in the store in Annapolis, MD to pick up my best friend a couple items for her birthday.

It's like a golden, pink, orange shimmer. I really like it.

It's called Shimmering Sunset and you can get it from any Sephora Store or online here.

I've been lazy, and busy all at the same time. I guess that happens from time to time. Ha ha...

I thought today I would share some music with you. This is Company of Thieves, with the song Oscar Wilde.

I like this song a lot.

This past weekend at the beach was awesome.  We left Thursday night.  I should have known what the tone of the weekend would be after Cindy almost hit a cop standing in the road at night.  Ha ha, thankfully she saw him last minute as we all were screaming at her.  We got to Bethany Beach Delaware at about 1130, and drank until about 345 am. Then it was off to bed.  Once up Friday AM, Janelle, myself, Cindy, and Denise, all piled into Cindy’s car again to do some grocery shopping, and pick up Lucia’s ice cream cake.  By the time we got back it was about 3 pm, and then it was off to the beach.

As we all set up our towels and what not, we rented an umbrella.  It was kind of windy, and all the waves out to see had white caps on them.  Hurricane Bill was off the coast somewhere, wreaking havoc.  The waves were big.  Some of the girls ventured into the water to swim.  I stood on the waters edge, with a few others, enjoy the splashing of waves.  We went back to our towels and that’s when the excitement started.

Melissa was smoking a cigarette, and a woman approached letting her know that it was not permitted on the beach, so Melissa put it out and we all went back to sunning and relaxing.  Next thing we knew our umbrella took flight and almost impaled someone on the beach. We got our umbrella back and repositioned it so that it wouldn’t take flight again. Next the beach patrol cop comes up and starts yelling at Melissa for smoking.  She explained to him she had not been smoking after she was told by the lady that it wasn’t permitted.  He then told her that someone had called him telling him she was smoking, and that if he was called again he would issue her a $500 dollar ticket.  After he walked away, we all glared at the woman who approached Melissa, while Melissa chose a few choice words to shout at her.  I mean really, she did put out the cig, and didn’t light up anymore after the lady said something.  So the phone call was really uncalled for.  Just as we were getting back settle, someone else’s umbrella took flight and hit Cindy in the face, Lucia in the head, and just barely missed impaling Melissa’s leg.  I had decided to dive down to the ground and only felt a light breeze as it sailed past me before barely missing Melissa.

After that craziness, we decided to go back down to the water. As I stood along the waters edge I noticed the waves seemed bigger.  Shortly after that a huge wave hit and the water came clear up to my knees, and then as the water rushed back out to sea, I lost my balance in the current.  I wasn’t really scared, I landed on my but.  As I sat laughing for a second, a second wave got me.  I shrugged it off again, not thinking much of it.  Right as I was standing up, a third wave knocked me over and dragged me in the sand.  As I stood up, I notice this time I did not come out unharmed.  My right knee had a huge scrape on it, and it started to bleed.  I rinse my leg with salt water, because salt water will disinfect the wound, and made my way back up the beach to my towel.  It was then I noticed my left leg had some scratches, as well as the top of my foot.  Ah well….I got a band aid for my right knee and then after a bit called it a day.  I wanted a shower more than anything.

Later Friday after everyone came back and showered, and ate dinner, we started drinking again, and started playing games.  One was pin the macho on the man, which is kind of like Pin the tail on the donkey, but you are using different male genitals.  Pretty funny.  After that it was a game where one person had a plunger handle between their legs while blind folded, and one person has a toilet paper roll, and the person with the plunger had the find the hole of the toilet paper roll.  Which was hilarious!  After that we blind folded Lucia and took her to the garage.  There we had surprised her with a piƱata, stuffed full of candy condoms, and confetti.  At some point Janelle decided she wanted to light fireworks off the balcony, and instead of flying like she said it was supposed to do, it fell.  Setting the bushes below on fire!  A few of us then turned into the “bucket brigade” and started hurling water on the bushes with pots and pans until the fire was out.  It was a fun night!

Saturday, we lounged all day.  Rain was falling off and on and it seemed pointless to go to the beach in the rain.  Some of the girls ventured down were back shortly after.  The beach was flooded for the most part, and no one was allowed in the water due to lightening.

Saturday night we all got ready to go out, and despite the rain and a bunch of cancellations by different cab companies, we made it out to Dewey Beach to the Rusty Rudder Bar, and had a great night dancing and drinking.  At the end of the night Janelle and I tried to get everyone into cabs, which proved to be a problem.  Lucia and Rachel had found two very hot marines and after we told them to get in the cab, they said they were fine and would call.  In which I told them to “get in the fucking cab” and then Lucia said, “Oh, I gotta go.”  Ha ha… during my wait as Janelle rounded up the remaining girls, I got a little person to give me a high five, which was awesome, and he and his friend stood with me while I waiting for my friends.  Shortly after they all showed up and we grabbed a cab home.

It was a really good weekend.  Lots of fun, and the bride was happy, which is what counts.

So while I am at the beach, sunning myself and just relaxing I thought I would share with you a little book review. Book reviews, I figure, are someone's opinion of a book they read. So here goes!

I recently read The Ice Queen by Alice Hoffman. Here is the paragraph off the back of the book:

A woman who leads a quiet life, keeping other people at a distance one day utters an idle wish to be struck by lightning-and her wish is granted. Instead of killing her, this cataclysmic event marks a strangeand powerful new beginning as the woman soon finds herself drawn into a passionate relationship with another survivor of a ligthning strike, a mysterious stranger who harbors dark secrets. Their affair becomes the center of a riveting story of loss, love, and redemption, a novel that reveals Alice Hoffman at the very height of her powers.

So here is what I thought of the book. It was a good book. I found myself wondering what would happen next when I had to stop reading. The only thing I didn't like was that some of the sentances were written like someone's erratic thought process, and I had to read them twice to fully understand them. I guess that some people like that, because it's like you are in the character's head. But I felt it was a bit confusing.

I made Fried Green Tomatoes the other night and wow! Delicious. Here is the recipe I used:

Fried Green Tomatoes

2 green tomatoes, slices a ¼” thick (makes about 8 rounds)

Flour

3 eggs whisked
Breadcrumb mixture - Italian breadcrumbs mixed with Panko (Italian Style)
Garlic powder and dried basil
Vegetable oil

Heat about 2-3 inches of vegetable oil over medium high heat. Mix breadcrumbs with garlic and dried basil. Dredge tomato slices in flour, shaking off excess. Dip in egg mixture, and then breadcrumbs. Cook for about 3 minutes, then turn them over for their last minute. Tomatoes will float to the top when they are just about done.

Remove with slotted spoon, to a plate lined with paper towel. Sprinkle with salt and parmesan cheese immediately. Let cool 2 minutes.

I wanna thank Steph over at Live.Love.Eat., she found this recipe for me a while back.

Ok, now I am off for the bachelorette weekend. I will be back Sunday with a full report! Beach here I come!!!

XOXO

This is quite possibly the prettiest wrapping paper I have ever purchase. I bought it to wrap my best friend's wedding gifts in. It may be hard to tell, but it's teal and bronze. I love it!! It looks so antique like.

I have been busy planning and buying stuff for next weekend. It's the bachelorette weekend, and I am really excited to spend some time at the beach.

But tomorrow I get a new mattress. Well, new to me that is. My Aunt had a mattress she used all of 3 times in this van she had when her husband was living. She took advantage of the Cash for Klunkers and got a new van, but now she has this mattress that needs a home. And since my mattress is the same one I have had since I was a kid, and it was previously my grandmother's, I really need a new one. Yes, I have been sleeping on a full size bed since I was 4. This is gonna bee great!!!

I’m out of books to read!

I just got done reading the 7 Sookie Stackhouse Novels, the ones that HBO’s series True Blood is based off of.  They were a really easy read, and very entertaining.  Now I just need to get books 8 and 9, and then I will be completely caught up.

For some reason when Karen O sings "Off with your head," I think of Alice in Wonderland and the Queen of Hearts.

Remember me telling you about my aunt who made Peanut the cover for his bed? Well Mom let me know that she now has been diagnosed with dementia. The good news is that mental illness doesn't run in out family, but the bad news was that it was brought on by the two strokes she had.

But I wanted to share with you another item she made. When I was little, she made me this doll. I loved it. Back when I got Peanut in 2005, when he was a raging maniac of a puppy, he got a hold of her and ripped her face up. Well I told my aunt and she asked me to send the doll to her and she would try to fix it. The doll was so old, she couldn't repair her, but she did make me a whole new doll.

I now keep her up high, so that nothing happens to her.

Tuesday was kind of fun. At 4 pm I usually have a live show in studio for their radio program, and the co-host of the show brought his dog, Pepper, with him. At the end of the show I thought it would be funny to get a picture of Pepper with head phones and and sitting at a Mic. I cropped out most of the original photo to make sure Pepper was pretty much the focus of the picture, then I had to photoshop out the hands of the co-host holding the headphones on the dog. I think I did a pretty good job.

I'm thinking about calling Animal Control to come out and get this kitty.

He roams the neighborhood. I think he belongs to one of my neighbors, but when you see him up close he looks skinny and definitely has a case of mange. I'm concerned because to me that's no way for a kitty to live. I've met cats that are outside cats, and the ones I met are very well fed and definitely don't have mange.
