This oil spill is now larger than the Exxon Valdez spill a while back. It's terrible. A whole eco system will be destroyed because of this. I just read this, and it broke my heart.
Sea Turtles
The total number of sea turtles verified from April 30 to May 25 within the designated spill area is 223. The 223 includes three entirely oiled sea turtles that were captured alive during dedicated on-water surveys last week: two small Kemp's Ridley and a larger sub-adult Loggerhead turtle. They were taken to the Audubon Aquarium where they are undergoing de-oiling and care and are doing well. In addition, 207 dead and 13 live stranded turtles (of which three subsequently died in rehab) have been verified. None of the dead or alive stranded turtles have had visible evidence of external oil.
Dolphins
From April 30 to May 25, there have been 22 dead dolphins verified within the designated spill area. The dolphin collected on May 24 is being evaluated. The other 21 dolphins have had no visible evidence of external oil.
Can't they just shout off the flow to the pipe or something? I know I don't fully understand the whole process, but good gravy. This is one oil spill where the effects will last a very long time. Maybe we should start taking a more serious look at alternative fuels.

I got a little hungry last night for some yummy cookies. And so I made some Orange Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies. So good!!!
Here is the Recipe if you want to give these a whirl!
Ingredients:
1 cup of butter softened
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup of white sugar
2 eggs
1 tablespoon of grated orange zest
1 teaspoon of orange extract
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 cups rolled oats
1 cup of dried cranberries
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
2. In a large bowl, cream together butter, brown sugar and white sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs, one at a time, then stir in vanilla, orange zest, and orange extract. Combine the flour, baking soda, and cinnamon; stir into the butter mixture. Stir in the oats and cranberries. Drop rounded spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.
3. Bake for 10-12 minutes in pre-heated oven, or until golden brown. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 2 minutes before removing to wire cooling rack to cool completely.

Today is Peanut's birthday. He turned 5, and I swear it seemed like yesterday when he was a tiny puptart getting into trouble.
I gave him a special treat, and he went to the farmer's market wih us. He is now passed out from such an exciting morning.

I downloaded, and installed, the leaked version of the android 2.1 OS for my HTC Hero from Sprint. While trying to figure out how to sync some contacts, instead of all contacts, I deleted most of my gmail contacts. Whoops!
I've recovered most of my contacts, but am still missing a few. This definately falls under the, "Sometimes I'm not that tech savy" moment.

Today I am cheering on Carolyn, Erika and Lucia as they Run-a-muck! It's a race and obsticle course where you can dress up. They dressed up as zombies and their team name is Needs More Brains!
